Lunit and Summit Apply AI Pathology to Tumor Microenvironment Research

Lunit and Summit Therapeutics will evaluate AI analysis of routine H&E slides for tumor microenvironment research in ivonescimab development.

Press release summary

Lunit and Summit Therapeutics have entered a research agreement to evaluate artificial intelligence-based pathology analysis in Summitโ€™s immuno-oncology development program for ivonescimab. The work will apply Lunit SCOPE IO to hematoxylin and eosin-stained whole-slide images, with the goal of characterizing features of the tumor microenvironment.

The platform is designed to extract quantitative and spatial information about tumor architecture, immune infiltration, stromal organization, and cell interactions from routinely generated H&E slides. The companies said those measurements may support exploratory biomarker discovery, patient stratification, and analysis of treatment response. They did not report clinical outcomes or validation results in the announcement.

For laboratory readers, the agreement illustrates how computational pathology could add structured data to existing tissue workflows without requiring an additional stain for every research question. If the approach proves reproducible across studies and sites, it could help pathology and translational teams analyze larger image sets consistently. The project remains an evaluation, however. Lunit SCOPE products are labeled for research use only and are not intended for diagnostic decisions.
