Press release summary

Waters Corporation said Oct. 13 it launched Waters AI Link, a software capability intended to connect artificial intelligence agents with its waters_connect informatics platform and LC-MS workflows.

The system brings Anthropicโ€™s Model Context Protocol to waters_connect, allowing compatible agents and large language models to interact with laboratory data and connected instruments through a common interface. Waters said agents can create methods, run acquisitions, process results and coordinate devices such as sample-preparation systems without custom integration. The company also joined Anthropicโ€™s Model Hardware Standard research program, which is developing specifications for AI agents to operate instruments, liquid handlers and robotic systems.

Waters said workflows developed in research can move through development and into Empower software for regulated quality-control environments while retaining an audit trail. AI Link is available through an early-access program, with general availability planned for November.

For laboratory readers, the launch is significant because it addresses the difficult connection between AI-generated experimental plans and physical analytical work. A shared interface could reduce custom integration and preserve workflow continuity as methods move toward regulated use. However, the release does not provide customer validation data, and autonomous instrument control remains partly tied to a research program.

The original Waters release was published Oct. 13, 2026.
