Independent intelligence for the laboratory world

PacBio and Verily Link Long-Read Genomics With Biomedical AI

PacBio and Verily Health plan to connect HiFi long-read sequencing with governed clinical data and AI research workflows.

Press release summary

PacBio and Verily Health announced a multiyear collaboration Oct. 19 to connect PacBio HiFi long-read sequencing workflows with Verily Pre, a governed platform for analyzing health data and developing artificial intelligence applications.

The companies said the integration will combine long-read genomic information with clinical and other health data at population scale. Verily plans to configure its Pre Workbench as a secure environment for aggregating, analyzing and curating HiFi datasets. The partners also expect to use Verilyโ€™s trusted agentic environment for model training and inference.

Long-read sequencing can capture structural variants, methylation patterns and full-length RNA transcripts that may be difficult to resolve with short-read methods. Bringing those outputs into a common analysis environment could reduce the custom data-engineering work required for large genomics programs.

For laboratory readers, the announcement matters because sequencing throughput alone does not make genomic data ready for research-scale AI. Data governance, clinical context, reproducible analysis and secure computing are equally important parts of the workflow. The companies plan to expand the integration across biopharma, clinical research and population-genomics programs. PacBio noted that its products are for research use only, while Verily said its Pre platform is not a medical device.
