Independent intelligence for the laboratory world

Mayo Clinic and Thermo Fisher Launch Precure for Population-Scale Multi-Omics Research

Precure plans to combine genomic, proteomic and longitudinal clinical data from one million biospecimens to study biological changes that precede disease symptoms.

Press release summary

Mayo Clinic and Thermo Fisher Scientific announced the launch of Precure, LLC, a new venture intended to study biological changes that occur before symptoms lead to a clinical diagnosis. Mayo Clinic will be the majority owner, with Thermo Fisher participating as a founding partner and minority owner.

The organizations plan to generate molecular data from one million biospecimens and connect it with longitudinal clinical information. The program is designed to combine genomic and proteomic measurements with Mayo Clinic’s clinical research resources and use large-scale analytics and artificial intelligence to identify patterns associated with early disease biology.

Why it matters for laboratories

Thermo Fisher said its contribution will include proteomics technology and laboratory systems such as Olink Explore HT and Orbitrap mass spectrometry. If the project reaches its proposed scale, it would require substantial standardization across specimen handling, instrument performance, data integration and quality controls. The release describes intended research uses across cancer, cardiometabolic, neurological and immune-mediated diseases; it does not report validated clinical outcomes.
