Press release summary
Axion BioSystems launched Synexus, a modular live-cell analysis platform that combines multielectrode array measurements, high-density electrophysiology and electrical imaging on one system.
The platform records label-free functional activity from cells while mapping morphology and spatial behavior. Axion said Synexus can run simultaneous measurements across as many as 96 wells, with a 384-well format planned. Its Pixel HD configuration uses more than 130,000 electrodes per well at 12.5-micrometer spacing, supporting single-cell resolution for neural, cardiac and other complex cell models.
Researchers can configure Synexus with different measurement modes, software modules, consumables and plate formats. That modular approach could allow laboratories to expand the instrument as workflows change instead of replacing the platform. The system is intended for research and therapeutic development applications, including neuroscience, disease modeling, drug discovery and safety pharmacology. Axion did not disclose pricing, commercial availability dates or independent performance comparisons in the announcement.
Why it matters to laboratory readers: Bringing functional and spatial measurements together on the same plate could reduce cross-platform data alignment and help scientists study heterogeneity in living cell populations without labels. Prospective buyers will still need to evaluate assay compatibility, validation requirements, throughput claims and long-term support for planned modules.
