Press release summary
Araceli Biosciences and Ginkgo Bioworks said Oct. 8 that Araceli’s Endeavor high-content imaging system has been integrated into Nebula, Ginkgo’s autonomous laboratory in Boston.
Nebula uses more than 100 modular Reconfigurable Automation Carts that combine robotic arms, automated sample transport and common control software. The addition connects cellular imaging to that automated environment, allowing experiments to generate image data and analyze it while other steps continue.
Araceli said Endeavor can image a 1,536-well plate in less than four minutes. Its ClaireRT software analyzes wells during acquisition and can alert operators, notify the automation system or stop imaging when results fall outside defined criteria. That type of feedback can prevent an automated workflow from continuing after an imaging-quality problem is detected.
For laboratory readers, the integration is a concrete example of closed-loop automation extending beyond liquid handling into image-based decision points. It could support larger, more consistent data sets for phenotypic screening and artificial intelligence model development. The performance figures were supplied by the companies, and the release did not include independent benchmarking or results from a specific drug-discovery program.
